Our Amazing Team

Brandon Pankey

Owner, Husband, Father

Brandon Pankey (ISA BCMA/TRAQ #SO-9997B) is the founder and lead arborist of Blue Pine Works LLC, a professional tree care and land management company serving East Central Minnesota and surrounding communities.

Brandon’s foundation in arboriculture began in the forests of Eastern Washington, where his family practiced selective harvest and timber stand improvement. He grew up working directly in the woods—felling and bucking timber, running equipment, assisting with skidding operations, and planting for regeneration. These early experiences shaped a respect for trees as living systems and landscapes as long-term commitments.

As his career progressed, Brandon traveled extensively, working in over 30 states and alongside some of the most skilled arborists, foresters, and technical climbing crews in the country. The exposure to varied regional tree species, climate patterns, structural growth habits, and work styles shaped a deep, nuanced understanding of tree biomechanics and long-term health management.

His time working in high-pressure environments that required precise risk mitigation, advanced climbing proficiency, and disciplined safety leadership became the foundation of his holistic, relationship-focused approach to tree care today.

Brandon continued to advance his professional practice and education, earning recognition as a:

  • ISA Board Certified Master Arborist (BCMA #SO-9997B)
  • ISA Tree Risk Assessment Qualified Arborist (TRAQ)
  • Journeyman Line Clearance Arborist — IBEW
  • TCIA Certified Treecare Safety Professional (CTSP #06015)
  • TCIA Tree Care Specialist (TC-11-023)
  • Minnesota Department of Agriculture Certified Pesticide Applicator (#20264624)
  • Minnesota Certified Tree Inspector (#20105904)
  • Class B CDL Holder
  • A.A.S. in Business — Peninsula College

Before founding Blue Pine Works, Brandon operated Pankey PHC, focusing on diagnostic-based plant health care, soil health, and long-term tree vitality. That experience now reinforces the firm’s emphasis on preventative care, structural development over time, and ongoing land stewardship.

At Blue Pine Works, Brandon leads with a commitment to:

  • Technical excellence and uncompromising safety culture
  • Evidence-based pruning and risk assessment
  • Thoughtful consulting and long-range landscape planning
  • Relationship-based arboriculture built on stewardship—not transactions

He trains apprentices through the company’s Registered Arborist Apprenticeship Program, helping to develop the next generation of skilled, thoughtful arborists and elevate professional standards within the industry.

Outside the field, Brandon is a husband, father, homesteader, and educator, dedicated to caring for both land and family with intention, craft, and continuity.

Kayana “Kay” Pankey

Office Manager, Wife, Mother

Kayana “Kay” Pankey is the Office Manager and Client Experience Lead at Blue Pine Works, where she manages scheduling, project coordination, client communication, and the company’s marketing and brand identity. She is often the first point of contact when clients reach out, and she takes pride in making sure every interaction is clear, respectful, and well-organized.

Kay holds an Associate’s Degree in Multimedia Marketing and Web Design, which she uses to guide the visual and communication style of the company. She developed the Blue Pine Works website, branding, and digital presence, ensuring that the company’s public-facing image accurately reflects its professionalism, values, and quality of work.

Kay entered the arboriculture industry seven years ago after meeting her husband, Brandon. What began as curiosity turned into genuine engagement with the science and stewardship behind tree care. Today, she holds her Minnesota Tree Inspector certification and is actively working toward her ISA Certified Arborist credential. She continues to pursue ongoing education to strengthen her technical understanding and ability to support clients effectively.

Her background in customer service taught her how to anticipate needs, communicate clearly, and maintain a steady, welcoming presence even in fast-paced or complex situations. That foundation shapes how she manages the front end of the company now: with courtesy, assertiveness, and consistency. Clients often comment on her professionalism, organization, and the confidence and stability she brings to their experience.

Outside of work, Kay enjoys gardening, sewing, reading, and spending time with her husband and their two children. Her perspective is rooted in family life and practical care of the spaces where people live. She believes that professional tree care isn’t just about appearance—it contributes to safety, property value, and the long-term health of the landscape.

For Kay, Blue Pine Works is not just a business—it’s a way of contributing to the community with integrity, skill, and respect for the environment and the people who live in it.
